NEW YORK FASHION WEEK AW17: 6 TRENDS TO TRY
Never mind the autumn/winter 2017 catwalk shows, the celebs and street stylers showcased the hottest trends at New York Fashion Week.
1. GO-TO CAMEL COAT
The temperature may have finally risen above freezing (thank God) but spring won’t be in full swing for a while yet. What to do in-between? Make like Gwyneth Paltrow at the Calvin Klein show – and a whole load of NYFW street stylers – and throw on a camel coat. It’s not a wardrobe classic for nothing, and the neutral shade means it’ll work all year. Especially chic with Gwynnie-inspired tonal shades, equally good with blue jeans and a tee.
2. STATEMENT STRIPED SKIRT
For a high-fashion stamp of approval on a new season trend, you can’t get better than contributing Vogue Editor and luxury online boutique owner Lauren Santo Domingo. The ever-chic show-goer rocked a statement rainbow striped skirt to the shows. Nail the look with our elongating vertical striped midi – just add the co-ordinating jumper for a Lauren-approved polished look.
3. COOL SILVER BOOTS
We’ve seen Diane Kruger and Gemma Chan stepping out in silver ankle boots, and after Alexa’s rocked a pair to the Proenza Schouler show, they’ve officially gained ‘It’ status. Seriously versatile – we promise – they’ll soon be fighting with your trusty black booties for your affection. Wear with denim and jumpers off-duty and with floral dresses for a fashion-forward look.
4. TROPHY TROUSERS
Think trousers are boring? Think again. The humble separate takes centre stage this season thanks to a bold wide-leg silhouette adorned with a stand-out button trim. Part nautical, part military and totally chic, they’ll elevate everything from skinny ribbed polo necks to simple tees and glossy blouses like Hong Kong actress Niki Chow’s. In go-with-everything black, ours are a work-to-weekend wonder.
5. KILLER COURTS
Ever wished the classic court shoe had a little more sex appeal? Look no further. As showcased by American actress Olvia Culpo at the Marchesa show, lace-up courts add a fierce edge to anything you pair them with – we’re particularly enjoying Miss Culpo’s unexpected combo. We like to wear ours with denim and a sexy top, but they look great with your go-to office tailoring too.
6. ABSTRACT SHIRTDRESS
There’s nothing we don’t love about a shirtdress. Chic, cool and practical, the timeless style will take you from day to night. To bring it into the new season, channel Amanda Peet at the Michael Kors show with an abstract printed version. In standout pink and purple (very on trend) our flattering style is the perfect piece to add a spring lift to your wardrobe.
